A natural fragment of Moldavite.
A Moldavite is a forest green, olive green or blue greenish vitreous silica projectile rock formed by a meteorite impact in southern Germany that occurred about 15 million years ago. It is a type of tektite and very rare. Tektites are a group of natural glasses formed from interplanetary collisions. From the Greek word tektos, meaning “molten”, Tektites are glassy mixtures of silicon dioxide, aluminium oxide and other metal oxides with an amorphous crystal structure. Moldavites are the only Tektite of gemstone quality, making them highly unique among all extra terrestrially created objects.
