Perfect as a gift! Who wouldn’t want to own a piece of Mars?

NWA 13187 was discovered on September 2019 where it was purchased by Mark Lyon from a Moroccan meteorite dealer who found it in the Sahara desert in Mali in Northwest Africa, however some of the meteorite was then resold to Mike Fleeman and Roberto Vargas. The entire meteorite is only 1.5kg in weight meaning that the pieces sold at Space Store are very rare!

NWA 13187 is classified as a “Martian” meteorite because it originated from the planet Mars. The classification of “shergottite” means the meteorite consists predominantly of clinopyroxene (pigeonite and augite) and plagioclase (shock-produced glass or maskelynite). NWA 13187’s full composition is the zoned clinopyroxene and maskelynite with accessory ulvöspinel (some Cr-bearing), ilmenite, silica polymorph, merrillite, pyrrhotite and minor secondary calcite.

NWA 13187 has a dark grey exterior with a rough and bumpy texture, if you were to cut it open to see the cross section you would see a light grey base with patches of darker grey interspersed throughout.

Our Mars rock comes in a small plastic casing with foam to protect each fragment. As well as a Specimen Identification Card for you to display at home!

Each of our NWA 13187 fragments are similar to the one shown in the image  – however no two fragments are identical.
