Description
The Magellan spacecraft is named after a sixteenth-century explorer whose expedition first circumnavigated the Earth. Magellan orbited Venus for 4 years and collected radar images of 98% of Venus’ surface. Magellan’s data permitted the first global geological understanding of Venus, which is the planet most like Earth in our Solar System. Magellan was the first spacecraft to be deliberately crashed. The Venus Magellan is a part of our planetary collection.
